What can I do right now to improve my Health?

by Dr. Martha Collins, B.A.(Hon.), D.C

Have your spine checked by a Chiropractor

1. Ensure that your spine and nervous system are checked by a Chiropractor for subluxations regularly. The healthier your nervous system is, the healthier you can be and the greater the potential for your life. When there is interferance in the function of your nervous system, your brain cannot communicate to your vital tissues and organs. Chiropractic is not about merely solving neck pain, headaches, and back pain, Chiropractic is about removing interferance from your nervous system so you can reach your vision of your life. You can work out in the gym, eat a balanced diet, stretch and drink lots of water, but until your nervous system functions optimally, the benefits of these other activities cannot be realized.

2. Lead a balanced life. Never before in the history of our existance have our lives felt this much out of control. The stresses in our lives, whether physical, chemical, emotional, or spiritual, all impact upon our ability to be well. Being balanced is easier than most people think, but it takes creativity and thought. What are three things you can do today to eliminate stress in your life? Do them. Now. Don't put this off. We all know three things we can change to resonate at a higher level, but sometimes we procrastinate. Challenge yourself - create some short-term chaos for long-term health. Tomorrow, try changing the next three things on your list.

3. Fall in love. Share your life with someone you love, and watch as colours become brighter, you look better in the mirror, you sleep more soundly, you take better care of yourself, and your confidence improves. If you are in a relationship that's stale, liven it up, but if it's beyond repair and you've both tried to no avail, move on. These words may sound harsh, but a bad relationship plays havoc with your health.

4."Blow the stink off." These words of wisdom are from my mother. Too many of us don't go outside and get fresh air on a regular basis. Take a walk. Even a brisk 20 minute walk will boost your heart rate, help you digest food better, increase oxygen delivery to your tissues, and give your lungs a workout. It seems like a simple thing to do, but it makes a tremendous difference in your fitness level, your vitality and your outlook. Try it for 10 days and feel the difference.

5. Drink 10 glasses of water per day. Not soda pop, not juice, not coffee, not tea, but water. North Americans do not drink enough water to increase health potential. Many health problems are due to dehydration; the list is long. Drink more water and within two weeks you will feel the difference.

6. Do what you love and love what you do. What is your purpose? If you are not happy in your career, find a creative way to do what you love and serve your life's purpose. There are millions of people who are doing what their parents or families want them to do with their lives, not what they want, and they are miserable. Miserable is the first step to losing your health. How many sick days did you take from summer camp as a kid? Take a close look at your life, and if your career is not making you happy and causing you to catapult out of bed in the morning to serve your life's purpose, please change it. We find that too many people become subluxated spiritually and emotionally because the are not on purpose. What is your gift? How can you share it with all of us? You do not serve the world, nor yourself, by settling for something you are not happy with. Life is short, way too short to mire yourself in a life of mediocrity. Find your life's purpose and let your light shine.

7. Give hugs -- get hugs. In our busy days, we don't take enough time to give hugs and get hugs. Declare a "National Hug Day." You'll be surprised at how great you'll feel giving and getting lots of hugs.

8. Read inspirational books. So many wonderful authors are published who can help you ask the right questions of yourself to help you on your path. The library and book stores are filled with words of wisdom to help you reach inside and become who you want to be.

9. Get a dog. Get a cat. Get a fish or a bird. If your lifestyle permits and you have the time, energy, and resources to care for a furry, feathered, or scaled companion, unconditional love comes in many furry shapes and sizes. The best place to adopt is the Humane Society to find a cherished friend. The more love we give, the more love we get, the healthier we'll be.

10. Do something special for yourself every day for the next seven days. See the difference in your outlook when you treat yourself. It doesn't have to be big, it just has to be special. Fill your life with special moments and you will create a special life. Try this every day for one week, then for one month, then for every day for the rest of your life.
